Lessons

The Instrument Barn offers lessons on all instruments. To get you started we offer 2 FREE trial lessons. That is a $50 value completely FREE with NO commitment.  Lessons after your trial lessons are $25 a half hour and are offered during our normal business hours. We recommend scheduling lessons weekly but we do also offer bi weekly lessons. Nick Lowe - Trumpet, Beginning Strings, and Beginning Piano 

Mr. Nick Lowe graduated from Elmhurst College in 2019 with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. Prior to graduation, he spent time teaching high school marching band in Wheeling, teaching private lessons in Aurora and Elmhurst, and performing in various pit orchestras around the northwest suburbs. During his time at Elmhurst College, Mr. Lowe performed with the Wind Ensemble, Philharmonic Orchestra, Jazz Lab Band, Trumpet Ensemble, and Brass Quintet. He has performed in several locations, including the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, the Jazz Showcase in Chicago, and at the Pearl Harbor Memorial in Hawai'i.

 

Will Kirby - Clarinet and Voice 

Will Kirby is a freelance musician who loves to play music. He has a Bachelor's degree in Music Performance as well as many Graduate credits from Northern Illinois University. He has played with various community orchestras and bands, including the Harper Symphony Orchestra, Buffalo Grove Concert Band, and Glenview Concert Band. He has also performed in musicals, such as A Chorus Line and Putnam County Spelling Bee, and many other professional gigs. The clarinet is his main instrument, however, he can also play the saxophone, steelpan, and sing. Music is his biggest passion, and he loves to be able to share what he knows with anyone who wants to learn.

 

Jeff Rollins - Violin and Viola 

Mr. Jeff Rollins graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Bachelor of Music Education degree in 2019. As a student at UIUC, Mr. Rollins studied with Stefan Milenkovich. While at UIUC Mr. Rollins performed with the University of Illinois Symphony Orchestra as well as many other string ensembles. Mr. Rollins has been playing the violin since he was 5 years old and comes from a very musical family. Mr. Rollins frequently performs at weddings with his string quartet, the Cottonwood Quartet. In addition Mr. Rollins most recently was a section violinist with the Fox Valley Orchestra and the Chicagoland Educators Orchestra. A veteran private instructor, Mr. Rollins has been teaching private lessons since 2012, and has taught students of all ages. Mr. Rollins is an avid Chicago Bears fan, and enjoys playing volleyball in his free time. 

 

Brian Drews - Clarinet, Ukulele, Beginning Flute and Saxophone 

Mr. Brian Drews graduated from Western Illinois University in 2016 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education.  While at Western, Mr. Drews studied clarinet with Eric Ginsberg.  While at WIU, Mr. Drews performed with various ensembles including Wind Ensemble, Chamber Winds, Concert Band, Symphonic Orchestra, Pit Orchestra, Marching Band, and various chamber ensembles. Since graduation, Mr. Drews has continued to grow his musicianship while teaching music to various age groups.  In his free time, Mr. Drews enjoys kayak fishing, listening to records, and spending time with his dog, Dixie.  Mr. Drews strives to inspire students, help students develop productive practice habits, and create independent learners.

Dennis Meacham - Low Brass

Dennis Meacham graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and Tuba – Performance in 2018. Currently, he is working on a Master of Music in Tuba – Performance at Northern Illinois University. Dennis enjoys working with all students and has taught pupils from age three to sixty-five. Dennis’ experience also reaches public school communities, since he has taught middle school and high school bands. Outside of the teaching, Dennis performs in NIU Orchestra, NIU Wind Ensemble, brass quintet, tuba euphonium ensemble, and the fox valley brass band. In his free time, Dennis enjoys reading history books and learning new cooking recipes.

 

Victoria Choin - Strings, Electric Bass, and High Brass

Victoria has been playing musical instruments for over 20 years. She studied piano and double bass at Central Michigan University, where she received a Bachelors degree in Music. She has played French Horn with the Arizona State University symphonic band, as well as other groups. Victoria received a Masters degree in Musicology from ASU in 2019. Since graduating, Victoria has been teaching orchestra at a school in Mesa, AZ. She has been teaching strings, brass, and piano privately for 5 years.
