Lessons

We offer lessons on all instruments at The Instrument Barn. Lessons are $25 a half hour and are offered during our normal buisness hours. We recommend scheduling lessons weekly but we do also offer bi weekly lessons.

Anya Gavin- high brass and strings

Anya is currently pursuing Bachelor’s degrees in
Performance, Music Education, and Finance at
Northern Illinois University, where she studies
trumpet with Dr. Mark Ponzo. Set to graduate in Fall
2020, she supplements her academic work with
conducting lessons from Deb Shofner, former ILMEA
State President.
In addition to teaching brass in multiple locations,
she also teaches strings and general music as part of
the Fox Valley El Sistema program. Her past teaching
experience includes clinical teaching at Brookdale
Elementary, McCarthy Elementary, and Hampshire
Middle School; volunteering at Huntley Middle
School in DeKalb, and interning at The People’s
Music School in Chicago.
Anya also regularly plays recitals and actively
performs in local groups, including the Fox Valley
Orchestra, Wheaton Municipal Band, DuPage
Symphony, and Fox Valley Brass Band.
Her dream is to attend the Eastman School of Music,
pursuing research connecting music education to
the acquisition of fundamental life skills and tools of
happiness.

 

Dennis Meacham - Low Brass

Dennis Meacham graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and Tuba – Performance in 2018. Currently, he is working on a Master of Music in Tuba – Performance at Northern Illinois University. Dennis enjoys working with all students and has taught pupils from age three to sixty-five. Dennis’ experience also reaches public school communities, since he has taught middle school and high school bands. Outside of the teaching, Dennis performs in NIU Orchestra, NIU Wind Ensemble, brass quintet, tuba euphonium ensemble, and the fox valley brass band. In his free time, Dennis enjoys reading history books and learning new cooking recipes.
